Chimney Saver is a water repellent specifically designed to protect masonry from severe weather which assists in preventing expensive reconstruction. It offers long term protection, penetrating into most pores 1/4", forming a strong bond with masonry and concrete. Chimney Saver provided 10 TIMES the water protection of typical brands.
It's important to note that Chimney Saver is not a sealer. Sealers coat surfaces and clog masonry pores, cause surfaces to darken or appear glossy, and trap water vapors which actually accelerate deterioration. Chimney Saver is 100% breathable, releasing water vapor and reducing water absorption.
An ice/water barrier is a second option to be laid down under shingles and used in valley areas of roof or around chimney flashing. Chimney Doctors can help in matching up replacement shingles.
Chimney Doctors can also add ventilation holes to attic or roof overhedge to prevent ice damn formation in winter.

Chimney Flashing
Chimney flashing prevents water from entering at the point where the chimney and the roof meet. Typically, step flashing is used along the edges of the chimney stack.
