Chimney Waterproofing

Chimney Doctors uses only the best water repellent on the market. This material is Chimney Saver™ and is manufactured by Saver Systems (Richmond, Indiana). This material provides the chimney with up to ten times the water protection of typical brands and prevents water leaks and extensive future chimney repairs (such as chimney rebuilding and chimney tuckpointing).

Severe spalling and deterioration is caused by water penetration. Waterproofing is an important step in extending the life of your chimney. Water penetration and freeze/thaw damage results in loss of insulation value and leads to structural failure. Chimney Doctor’s “Chimney Saver” is a penetrating water repellent which protects masonry from destructive water penetration and freeze/thaw damage. Listed below is information about our Chimney Saver waterproofing.

ist2_4685026-smoke-stacks-on-the-tiled-roofChimney Saver is a water repellent specifically designed to protect masonry from severe weather which assists in preventing expensive reconstruction. It offers long term protection, penetrating into most pores 1/4″, forming a strong bond with masonry and concrete. Chimney Saver provided 10 TIMES the water protection of typical brands.

It’s important to note that Chimney Saver is not a sealer. Sealers coat surfaces and clog masonry pores, cause surfaces to darken or appear glossy, and trap water vapors which actually accelerate deterioration. Chimney Saver is 100% breathable, releasing water vapor and reducing water absorption.

An ice/water barrier is a second option to be laid down under shingles and used in valley areas of roof or around chimney flashing. Chimney Doctors can help in matching up replacement shingles.

Chimney Doctors can also add ventilation holes to attic or roof overhedge to prevent ice damn formation in winter.

Chimney Flashing

Chimney flashing prevents water from entering at the point where the chimney and the roof meet. Typically, step flashing is used along the edges of the chimney stack. Leaks often occur at the chimney when flashing fails. Damaged flashing can be cemented or patched; however, it is also a sign that the roof may need to be replaced sooner than later. Before beginning any roofing project, it is important to wear the proper gear, such as rubber-soled shoes, protective gloves, a tool belt, and even a safety harness.
